energyTWIN research project - finale conference in Cologne

On June 27, the final meeting of the project partners in the energyTWIN research project took place at aedifion GmbH in Cologne. The project focused on new sensor and AI-supported methods for the BIM-based commissioning of technical building equipment in building construction and their energy system optimization.

The partners were able to demonstrate to Markus Havertz from the project sponsor Forschungszentrum Jülich that all key objectives of the project, which ran for almost four years, had been achieved and that there is strong interest from industry in digital solutions such as AR Explorer, which were developed on the basis of the knowledge gained in the project.

In his presentation, Matthias Wenthe from IMS showed how AR-Explorer greatly facilitates the commissioning of technical building equipment in structural engineering by overlaying the BIM model with the finished system, including the display of field data, topological relationships and point cloud scans. The BCF-compliant ticket system integrated into the software is an important tool for documenting deviations from the as-planned model and thus allows a correct as-built model to be developed from the BIM planning.

In his concluding statement, Jörg Blankenbach, Chair of the Geodetic Institute and Chair of Building Informatics & Geoinformation Systems at RWTH Aachen University, highlighted the new questions that have arisen in the project and gave an interesting outlook on future research in the field of energy-efficient refurbishment of buildings, paying particular attention to the acceleration factor of AI. Prof. Blankenbach thanked the project sponsor and the partners, especially the host aedifion, and also emphasized that valuable contacts are made among the partners in such research projects, which positively accelerate the transfer of knowledge between the sectors, but also between research and industry.
